Fit with the Sixers

You know how some guys always make the “it” play ? Think about guys like Draymond Green, Marcus Smart and Andre Iguodala, they live for the “it” plays.  The one that swings momentum. The one that wins the game. The instant bolt of electricity. That’s Donte DiVincenzo.

The tip-in against Virginia. The put-back dunk dagger against Texas Tech.  The five three-pointers against Alabama to help the sputtering offense.

Donte DiVincenzo puts his fingerprints on the game.

DiVincenzo would fit nicely with the Philadelphia 76ers. If he were to join the team, I’d expect him to challenge for Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot’s (hypothetical) minutes immediately. He’d be low usage and probably play about a dozen minutes a night in his first year. His role would be similar to TLC’s as well. Shoot threes, find ways to the basket, and play stout defense.

DiVincenzo just seems like a Brett Brown kind of guy. He’s a willing passer and a confident shooter. He crashes the glass with reckless abandon and competes on defense. Donte DiVinvenzo doesn’t back down from anything or anyone. Who wouldn’t love to see T.J. McConnell, Donte DiVinceno, and Dario Saric on the floor at the same time? “Gritty” would barely do that trio justice.

“Michael Jordan of Delaware” would be a great fit in Philly. He’s a low-maintenance gamer that makes winning plays. Villanova played the purest form of team basketball and DiVinvenzo was a big part of it. He struggled with consistency throughout the year, but his effort payed off down the stretch.

Donte DiVincenzo may be a draft-darling, but he’s more than that. He’s a high-motor, high-IQ player that’s been winning since high school. He’ll carve out an NBA career that lasts over a decade, and contribute every step of the way. DiVincenzo would be an instant boost to a young team with Finals aspirations. If he’s on the board at 26, I wouldn’t think twice.
