Melton was among the best performers at the combine, locking him into the first-round conversation. The Pacers could be looking for a long-term backcourt parter for Victor Oladipo.
Both are capable of splitting the playmaking load, with Melton relieving some of the offensive pressure currently placed on Oladipo. Melton lacks dynamic handles, but is an excellent slasher who gets to the rim and can operate in the pick-and-roll.
On the defensive end, Melton’s length and instincts make him one of the best perimeter defenders outside the lottery. That two-way upside should pique Indiana’s interest given Oladipo’s status as an All-NBA defender.
