Philadelphia 76ers 2017-18 season report cards
With the Philadelphia 76ers season behind us, here’s how each player performed during the 2017-18 campaign.
The Philadelphia 76ers‘ 2017-18 campaign has officially ended after 52 regular season wins, five playoff wins, a weird situation for the first-overall pick, and the rise of the Rookie of the Year favorite, among many other storylines. The Sixers’ year greatly exceeded preseason expectations, yet with the maligned Eastern Conference, the team and its fans feel it could have made a deeper run in the playoffs.
This season exemplified the fulcrum of the Process. Bryan Colangelo rid the team of any G-League-caliber talent and added guys that would help Philly win. J.J. Redick’s one-year, $23 million deal set the tone for the season before it even started by screaming out to the rest of the NBA that the Philadelphia 76ers finished messing around.
Although the Boston Celtics exploited most of the roster’s weaknesses in the second round, the Sixers fended off the Miami Heat in the first round with relative ease. That series finished in a 4-1 gentleman’s sweep in favor of Philadelphia.
Unfortunately, poor adjustments, streaky shooting, turnovers, and poor performances from key players resulted in Brett Brown and Co.’s abrupt postseason exit.
Now, the Philadelphia 76ers face one of the most important offseasons in recent memory. The young foundation of the team still needs a star in his prime to help the team reach its potential, and three superstar wings will hit the trade or free agent market. LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George will all attract many suitors this summer, and the Sixers will certainly pursue at least one in order to prepare for a year of contention.
For now, though, the team needs to focus on what it has at the moment, so on that note, check out the grades for every Philadelphia 76ers player on the roster.
