The Philadelphia 76ers should take full advantage of Kawhi Leonard‘s discontent with the San Antonio Spurs and try to trade for superstar.

It appears that the Kawhi Leonard sage with the San Antonio Spurs has come to a boiling point.

As information is coming in about the thought process from Leonard’s camp, it’s important to note that Chris Haynes reported that the super max that is available for Leonard isn’t his priority. However, Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that the super max does hold value to the superstar forward. The Philadelphia 76ers front office needs to figure out which report is accurate so that they can proceed forward with the correct information.

If the Spurs comply with Leonard’s will to leave the franchise, then depending on where the superstar gets traded to will largely impact the balance of power in the NBA. According to Wojnarowski, that the Los Angeles Lakers are the preferred team for Leonard. However, this shouldn’t stop the 76ers from making a trade offer for the Spurs franchise player.

Philadelphia’s style of play better fits Leonard’s skill set and unlike the Lakers, the Sixers already have two legit stars to pair next to him. The combination of Leonard, Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons would be formidable, however bringing the Spurs superstar to Philly would not be cheap.

Sure this proposed trade wouldn’t leave the Sixers with any first round picks this year, but for the price of Leonard it’s worth it. Robert Covington would surely be missed, however Leonard is a major upgrade over him. Letting Markelle Fultz go would probably be the hardest part of this hypothetical trade, but his is the most important part of it. The Spurs wouldn’t do the proposed trade without Fultz and his potential would be the selling point of the deal.

The Sixers are giving up a lot in this hypothetical trade, but they would have to give up a kings ransom to see Leonard in a Philadelphia uniform. Derrick White is including in this deal for purely financial purpose. Without White the proposed trade wouldn’t work money wise. The Spurs could start a legit rebuild with the pieces that the Sixers would send in the hypothetical deal.

The Philadelphia 76ers are sure to have plenty of competition for Leonard’s services, the Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Boston Celtics have all been mentioned as potential trade partners by Wojnaroski. However, the Sixers can make one of the best trade packages for the superstar. If the Spurs decide to move on from Leonard, then Philadelphia would be a good trade partner for San Antonio to make a deal with.
