Now that the Philadelphia 76ers are done with Summer League play, it’s important to note the winners and losers on that roster.
With the Summer League now over for the Philadelphia 76ers, the club will surely turn their attention to preparing for the upcoming season. However, before fans get to entrenched with the upcoming season, it’s important to do a quick review of the performances from the Summer League roster.
There were three players that stood out the most during the Summer League due to their performance. Now there were some very good performances and some were bad. It’s important to review the best, worst and biggest surprise performances and how they might impact the Sixer’s roster decisions moving forward.
Breakout Player
This award came down to two players and while I’m personally a big Cameron Oliver fan, Isaiah Miles had the bigger breakout performance. Miles wasn’t a big name like Zhaire Smith coming into the Summer League for the Sixers.
Miles played four years of college ball at Saint Joseph’s University. During his senior season, he averaged 18.1 points and 8.1 rebounds, while shooting 52.3 percent from the floor and 38.5 percent on 3-pointers. After college, he played for Dijon where he had a very nice season in 2016-17, averaging 12.2 points and 4.9 rebounds, while converting 49.5 percent of his field goal attempts and 46.8 percent of his 3-point shots.
Miles was the second leading scorer for the Sixers during the Summer League. He averaged 10.4 points while shooting 47.6 percent on his 3-point attempts. If the Sixers were still in the rebuilding phase, then he would most likely get a shot to make the roster. However, that’s very unlikely now that the club is competing for a championship.
While Miles doesn’t have a good chance to make the Sixers roster, he should be considered for either a two-way contract or a spot with the Sixer’s G-league affiliate the Delaware Blue Coats. Miles will have completion for a two-way contract, however he should easily be a staple on the Blue Coats roster.
