It’s clear that the Philadelphia 76ers will eventually move on from combo guard Jerryd Bayless, but the franchise shouldn’t expect any big return for him.

There have been recent rumors surrounding the Philadelphia 76ers having a potential trade package for the Cleveland Cavaliers wing Kyle Korver and combo guard Jerryd Bayless, the central player in the package from the Sixers side. However, now there is a report out from Joe Vardon of cleveland.com and it appears that there’s “‘nothing to report‘” in regards to any potential trade talks.

In other words, it appears that there are no real takers for Bayless. This doesn’t bode well for the franchise who frankly doesn’t need the veteran going into next season. At this point, the Sixers should expect the bare minimum if the club is able to find another team willing to trade for the combo guard.

More from The Sixer Sense

While Bayless holds value as a veteran on the last years of his contract and can spread the floor with his 3-point shooting, it appears that no team is clamoring for his services. That is impart due to his recent injury history and his lack of any solid defensive skills.

It’s also pretty evident that the Sixers are in need to offload Bayless sooner rather than later. Even without Bayless, the Sixers have four players that can play point guard next season in Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz, T.J. McConnell and Landry Shamet. That’s not including 2018 second round pick Shake Milton, who has yet to sign a deal with the club.

The 76ers could buy Bayless out of his contract or stretch it, however trading him should be the preferable option due to the salary cap implications of not dealing him to another team. With that in mind, based on his deficiencies on the court, injury history and lack of leverage the Sixers have in trade negotiations, the Sixers should expect a very small return for the veteran.

There are four possible returns that Philadelphia could receive for Bayless in a trade. They get either: a heavily protected second round pick that has little chance to convey, the draft rights to an European player who probably won’t ever come over to the NBA, another undesirable veteran on a one year contract or cash considerations.  None of the listed potential returns are really desirable, but at this point it’s probably the best that Philly can get for the veteran.

Philadelphia 76ers fans shouldn’t be upset over any haul the franchise receives in a deal that sends Bayless to another team. While he can still contribute, his trade value is low and it’s beyond unlikely the Sixers get anything of real value for the combo guard.
