The Philadelphia 76ers now filled both two-way contracts spots with the franchise re-signing point guard Demetrius Jackson.
Recently the Philadelphia 76ers had signed rookie point guard Shake Milton to a two-way contract, which left the club with one two-way contract remaining. However, the team’s front office wasted little time in using the remaining two-way deal on returning a former player. The Sixers were able to re-sign Demetrius Jackson to play on another two-way contract, as reported by Shams Charania of Yahoo.
This is not the first two-way deal that Jackson has played on for the Sixers. Back in January 2018, Jackson signed a two-way contract with the 76ers after being waived by the Houston Rockets earlier that month.

After signing the two-way deal, Jackson played three games with the Sixers averaging 2.7 points and 1.3 assists. However, Jackson’s potential was seen with Philadelphia’s G-League affiliate, the then Delaware 87ers where he averaged 13.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.3 steals, while shooting 42.1 percent on field goal attempts and 36.6 percent on 3-pointers.
Jackson also had a solid Summer League outing for the club in which he averaged 8.2 points, 4.5 assists and 1.3 steals. Jackson’s solid showings in the G-League and Summer League, along with his familiarity with the Sixers franchise most likely helped him earn another two-way contract with Philly. Jackson’s defensive potential is evident based on his previously listed G-League and Summer League stats and is valuable to have on a two-way deal for the 76ers.
Now it’s important to note, that with the re-signing of Jackson, the Sixers have both spots for two-way contracts filled by points guards. Including both two-way players, Philly has seven players who’s primary position is point guard. This group of playmakers include Ben Simmons, Markelle Fultz, T.J. McConnell, Landry Shamet, Jerryd Bayless, Milton and Jackson. It would be surprising if that number of lead guards stays that high throughout the upcoming regular season.
Having Jackson return on a two-way contract allows the Philadelphia 76ers to have a veteran of sorts going in-between the Sixers and now the Delaware Blue Coats. Jackson provides defensive upside and stability for the 76ers as well as the Blue Coats for this upcoming season, which is something that can’t be understated.
