Ranking the 5 most important offseasons in Philadelphia 76ers history

The Summer of 2018  for the Philadelphia 76ers was billed by some as the ‘Most Important offseason in the history of the franchise’. Looking back, there have been other pretty darned important Sixers offseasons as well.

Any Philadelphia 76ers fan this summer who turned on a sports talk radio show or picked up some selected articles were continually told this was the ‘Most Important offseason in franchise history’.

However, looking at the history of the franchise (since 1963, not going back to Syracuse Nationals), there were some offseasons that ended up being really, really important as well.

Considering the haul interim general manager Brett Brown and his staff brought in were Wilson Chandler, Mike Muscala and three rookies, none of whom were drafted in the top 15 (but all of them injured), while not shabby, probably does not match what people would expect of the most important summer of all-time.

The counter argument goes; when is an offseason of little importance? To followers of a team, and its coaches and players, the answer is: Never.
