5. Joel Embiid wins MVP

Prediction: Joel Embiid posts a stat line of 27 points per game, 12 rebounds per game, and 2.5 blocks per game on the way to winning the 2018-19 Most Valuable Player award.

The Sixers have not had one of their players win MVP since Allen Iverson won it in 2001, but Young Olajuwon will bring it back to South Philly this season. Embiid has picked up so much about basketball in the short time he has played the game, and that indicates he will dominate after having an injury-free offseason to work on his game.

He took steps in the right direction between his rookie and sophomore years. His points per game increased by 2.7, he grabbed 3.2 more rebounds, and averaged 1.1 more assists. He’s still just 24, and since he’s working with the best trainer in the sport, fans should anticipate even more amazing feats from the Cameroonian.

As mentioned a few times earlier, Embiid and Drew Hanlen worked this summer to improve the 7-foot-2 center’s three-point shooting and limit his turnovers. Philly’s franchise player gave up the ball 3.7 times per game, often in crucial late-game situations, too. If he can tighten his handle and learn how to get out of a double-team, then he will solidify himself as at least a top 10 player in the NBA, maybe even top five.

Embiid played in 61 games last season before he missed the end of the regular season with an eye injury. Although it was a shame to see him injured, the positive thing is that his injury happened due to contact, not overuse or fragility. If his back, knees, and feet stay intact this season, the big fella will have a big year.
