Philadelphia 76ers projected depth chart at each position
As the new season begins to creep up on the Philadelphia 76ers, it may be the right time to figure out a solid depth chart for the team moving forward.
NBA preseason is just beginning and the Philadelphia 76ers are just starting training camp. As preseason games and the regular season approaches, head coach Brett Brown is surely figuring out rotations and depths charts for the roster. Before the Sixers begin to play games, it would be good to have at least a projected depth chart going forward.
Point guard
Starter
If it isn’t obvious who will be the Sixers starting point guard, it should be none other than reigning Rookie of the Year, Ben Simmons. Sadly Simmons doesn’t see himself hitting 3-point shots this year, but for a player who averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists during his rookie year, surely the Sixers can live without him launching it from down town. Still, Simmons has put work in on his shot so expect the point guard to expand his range a little bit.
Primary reserve
Time as Simmons’ backup should be split between Markelle Fultz and T.J. McConnell. When they are on the court together expect McConnell to get the nod at point guard, but when Fultz isn’t on the court with McConnell or Simmons, he should be able to run the show by himself. However, its more than likely that they play together majority of the time, so expect McConnell to get the primary backup duties.
Rest of depth
There are several other playmakers that can fill the role of point guard if injury or foul trouble were to occur. Landry Shamet, Shake Milton, Demetrius Jackson and Jerryd Bayless all have point guard skills. However, because Milton and Jackson are on two-way contracts and Bayless’ future is unclear, expect Shamet to be the fourth point guard on the depth chart for the Sixers.
