Shooting Guard

Starter

To begin the season, it makes sense to start with sharp shooting veteran J.J. Redick. He’s a proven floor spacer and solid veteran to have in the starting five. However, in the past I have written that Redick could very well lose is spot the Fultz, if the second year player can prove to be a shooter. Father time may also catch up to Redick as well seeing as the veteran is 34-years-old. As for now, Redick should begin the season as a starter.

Primary reserve

In the past, I have wrote that Fultz would thrive as a reserve this upcoming season. Having Fultz as Redick’s backup would allow for him and Simmons to play together more often. While Fultz’s has amazing playmaking skills, he is versatile enough to play off the ball as well. As long as the 150,000 shots he put up this offseason actually improve his shooting ability, then he would be a natural fit as a shooting guard.

Rest of depth

The Philadelphia 76ers still have solid depth behind Redick and Fultz. Zhaire Smith, Furkan Korkmaz, Shamet, Milton and Bayless can all fill in at the two spot. However, with Smith still out until December due to injury (to read story in tweet that has been linked, a subscription is required), Shamet would be the ideal third string option at shooting guard for the Sixers to begin the season with. There’s a chance that Korkmaz could see a little burn at the off guard position, but that isn’t his natural spot and shouldn’t play out of position too much.
