Observations from the Philadelphia 76ers’ 2018 preseason action
J.J. Redick
With the resurgence of Markelle Fultz, it was inevitable that sacrifices were going to have to be made to cater to his now starter-level status. And for better or worse, J.J. has been the odd-man out.
Yet a change of scenery has not stopped him from being productive. After a 13-point outing and a 12-point performance against Melbourne United and the Magic respectively, he was perfect against the Mavs, posting 25 points on 10-10 shooting overall (7-7 from deep).
Despite sacrificing his spot in the starting lineup, it’s clear J.J. hasn’t missed a step. And if we’re being honest, it might not be that bad of a move to have J.J. come off the bench if Fultz ends up starting in the long-term.
The second unit could really use the scoring boost he’s been able to provide so far in the preseason. Plus, with J.J. starting to get up there in age, it might actually be beneficial for him to keep his legs fresh heading into the crunch time of games, as this squad will definitely need his presence in those situations.
