Detroit Pistons
Last season was rough for the Detroit Pistons, but all signs are pointing up for the Motor City franchise. The team has ridden themselves of head coach/president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy and replaced him with reigning Coach of the Year Dwane Casey. Don’t be surprised to see Casey fix the problems the Pistons had last season.
The Pistons also have point guard Reggie Jackson healthy, which is a great boost to the club after he only played in 45 games last season. On top of that, Blake Griffin has had his first offseason with the club after getting traded to the team during last season, which should help with chemistry. Both players should help Detroit make a more well rounded club.
Another aspect to look at with the Pistons is Andre Drummond. The center has had a great preseason to begin with and while unsuccessful, Drummond has attempted to expand his game to the 3-point line. While Drummond has lost every matchup against Embiid, he’s a difference maker that the Philadelphia 76ers have to plan for.
As long as the Pistons core stays healthy, there’s little doubt that coach Casey won’t be able to improve upon the team’s 39-43 record from last season. The team is healthier and deeper than last year’s squad, which should make them a dark horse contender for a top four spot in the East, but unlikely to pose a big threat to Philadelphia.
