Philadelphia 76ers: Robert Covington has offered most return on investment
By Josh Wilson
The future for Robert Covington
Covington can be a serviceable player on this team if he simply keeps doing what he has been doing, and could be even better with some minor adjustments. Mainly, focusing on being consistent game in and game out with his three-point shooting would help, but also getting more involved in the passing game could help the team tremendously.
Covington is often the end of a passing sequence, but if he can become one of the middle points, he can help his teammates out. Joel Embiid has struggled in the preseason with three-point shooting, but could improve with some love from Covington.
Last season, of passes from his teammates of at least 1.0 per game, Embiid shot best from beyond the arc off passes from Ben Simmons, to no surprise. His second-best partner for three-point shots, however, was Covington, hitting 38.5 percent of his attempted threes from Covington.
Outside of Embiid, J.J. Redick and Dario Saric both shot above their season average from three off passes from Cov.
The return on Covington has paid dividends up to this point, and the investment continues to grow. Covington appears to be an important piece of what is being built in Philly.
