The Philadelphia 76ers are 2-2 after a brutal loss to the Detroit Pistons, but the sky isn’t falling.

Blake Griffin dropped 50 and the Philadelphia 76ers, due to several unfortunate miscues, dropped to 2-2 following an overtime loss to the Detroit Pistons. After entering the season with high hopes, the Sixers have shown some noticeable flaws in the early going. It’s not time to panic, though.

Their opening night loss to the Celtics was expected — a tough road environment against a superior opponent with unfavorable matchups. Boston was supposed to win and took care of business. The Celtics are better than the Sixers, point blank.

Then the Sixers went on to beat Chicago and Orlando. The Bulls are the worst defense in the league, and the Sixers took advantage. Orlando has been a tough out in the early going, even taking down Boston. The Sixers won despite missing Ben Simmons for all but seven minutes.

Detroit is a playoff-caliber team and Griffin put together the best game of his career. The Sixers still had several chances to win. If it weren’t for a missed technical free throw and/or accidental foul from J.J. Redick, overtime might not have happened.

It’s also worth noting that the Sixers were without Simmons entirely in Detroit, on the road, against Griffin on his absolute best night. Only losing by one point in OT ain’t bad.

Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons are bona fide stars. J.J. Redick looks like the Sixth Man of the Year favorite. Markelle Fultz has hit a couple threes. Things are looking up for the Sixers, whether their early record reflects it or not.
