While Zhaire Smith drew the most attention, Jarrett Culver was another surprising freshman wing for the Red Raiders. He’s a solid, versatile defender himself, but he’s much further along offensively than Smith.
Starting 20 of 37 games last season, Culver averaged 11.2 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists. He also shot 38.2 percent from deep, showcasing a fluid stroke when spotting up. His ability to attack closeouts, create off the dribble and occasionally find teammates is what makes him so promising.
In a league that’s becoming increasingly wing-dependent, Culver fits the mold of a 3-and-D wing with some ancillary playmaking upside. He’s not getting significant hype right now, but he’s someone draftniks will have their eyes on all season.
