Philadelphia 76ers top five players of the month: Top heavy performances
No. 1
To say that Joel Embiid has had a hot start to begin the season is an understatement. Not only has he made it clear that he’s arguably the best center in the NBA, but one of the league’s best player’s overall. He’s also been player of the week twice in the first two full weeks of October during the NBA season.

In the first month of the regular season, Embiid averaged 27.0 points, 11.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 2.1 blocks, 0.3 steals, 3.3 fouls and 2.4 turnovers, while converting 47.8 percent of his shots inside of the arc, 29.4 percent of his shots from downtown and 83.6 percent from the charity stripe in eight games. It should be noted that Embiid’s ability to get to the free throw line is a big part of his success.
The close overtime lose to the Detroit Pistons was easily Embiid’s best game in the month of October. During 39 minutes of action, Embiid tallied 33 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks, five fouls and one turnover, while shooting 11-20 from the floor, not converting any of his four 3-point attempts and going 11-14 from the foul line.
Embiid’s playing like one of the best players in the league and without his production, the Sixers would be in a much worse shape than they currently are right now. Only time will tell if Embiid has a serious chance at the MVP award, but his early play should at least give him a shot.
That concludes the top five players for the month of October. Players like Muscala, Covington and Redick got on the list, because they simply did their job. Hopefully, other players will take their place in the next edition due to their improved level of play and not just doing what they are suppose to.
