2. Luguentz Dort, Arizona State (Big Board: N/A)
An under-the-radar freshman at Arizona State, Dort made a statement with 28 points in Arizona State’s double-overtime win on opening night. The Canadian guard enters the season as a fringe first-round prospect and will have the chance to climb boards if his production continues.
Standing 6-foot-5, Dort has a strong frame, which he uses to aggressively attack the lane. He seeks out contact, drawing fouls and scoring with regularity at the rim. If he’s able to consistently knock down perimeter shots, he’s someone the Sixers need to monitor.
In addition to his offensive upside, Dort’s frame and athleticism give him ample defensive potential. He’s sturdy enough to defend stronger guards and wings, something NBA teams will covet.
The Sixers need more perimeter pieces who can handle the ball and space the floor. As long as Dort is knocking down spot-up threes at a reasonable clip, his slashing and defensive prowess are traits Philadelphia should be enamored with. He’s worth monitoring as a potential quick riser.
