The Spurs are running thin in the frontcourt, with LaMarcus Aldridge being their only consistent source of production. Pau Gasol is aging and Jakob Poeltl, for some reason, hasn’t panned out. Expect Gregg Popovich‘s team to address the problem.
Daniel Gafford surprised many by returning to school last summer, forgoing a potential top-20 selection. It might benefit him, however, given the much thinner center crop in the 2019 class. He’s off to a strong start in non-conference play.
In 27.6 minutes per game, Gafford is averaging 19.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He’s an ultra-athletic finisher, giving the Spurs a vertical threat in the middle. His rim protection is something San Antonio would appreciate.
