Arguably the best point guard in the 2019 class, Darius Garland will miss significant time after suffering a meniscus injury in his left knee. While that puts a damper on his draft stock, it shouldn’t take away from Garland’s talent.
The Pelicans typically view Jrue Holiday as a two-guard, embracing versatility and running another lead guard (Elfrid Payton) alongside him. Garland would be an upgrade over Payton, giving the Pelicans another dynamic option in the backcourt.
With shifty handles, three-level scoring and solid passing chops, Garland has all the tools needed to carve out his niche in the NBA landscape. He’s somewhat undersized, but defends the point of attack well and can handle his position.
