With the current cap situation dragging Miami down, adding quality contributors at a low cost will be important. De’Andre Hunter is an arguable top-five prospect who might be available later than he should be. The Heat, as a result, strike gold.

Hunter has the ability to defend all five positions, giving him one of the highest defensive ceilings in the draft. He’s also Virginia’s most dynamic offensive cog, giving them a necessary face-up threat at the four spot. He’s the perfect NBA stretch-four.

Miami has built their culture around hard work, defense and unselfishness. Hunter fits the bill, giving the Heat someone who can earn significant minutes right away. With James Johnson underperforming, addressing the power forward position makes sense.
