There’s a solid chance Ja Morant is the first point guard off the board. The sophomore continues to fly under the radar at Murray State, but he’s electrifying scouts and draftniks with his dynamic handles, explosive athleticism and impressive court vision.
The Timberwolves have a solid point guard rotation with Jeff Teague, Derrick Rose and Tyus Jones, but the former isn’t in the long-term plans. Rose isn’t either, even with his unexpected growth. Adding another high-level creator to the rotation should be a priority.
Morant needs to prove his consistency as a shooter, but he’s an excellent playmaker who can score at the rim, hit pull-ups and incorporate Minnesota’s stars in the offense. The Morant/Karl-Anthony Towns two-man game could be fun to watch.
