P.J. Washington fits the Celtics mold. He’s a strong-bodied comboforward with an excellent motor and the potential to defend all five positions in spurts. With a solid face-up game among his many improvements in year two, Washington seems locked into the first-round discussion.
The Celtics will look for players who can contribute right away, as depth tends to be an important part of Brad Stevens’ success. Washington can defend at the NBA level on day one. He and Jones are both instant fits on both ends.
In the end, there’s a good chance the Celtics look to package these picks for another veteran or higher draft pick, given limited available roster spots. With that said, maxing out on cost-controlled assets is how the Celtics became Eastern Conference favorites.
