Jontay Porter returned to school with lottery potential, only to tear both his ACL and MCL in an off-camera scrimmage before the season. It’s a tough break for an exciting prospect, but Porter should still garner first-round consideration from NBA teams.
Conditioning and perimeter defense will be points of emphasis for Porter — especially after a knee injury — but he’s already a polished offensive piece. The Lakers need frontcourt depth, and Porter makes perfect sense next to LeBron James, Lonzo Ball and the L.A. core.
With three-point range, great passing instincts and a solid all-around skill set, Porter should find an immediate niche at the next level. Assuming his health gets back to 100 percent, Porter could be a steal late in the first round.
