Jimmy Butler: More assertiveness on offense
In 17 games since joining the Sixers, Jimmy Butler is averaging 18.5 points on 13.7 shots per game — both of which rank second on the Sixers in that span. He’s just a shade over Redick in the scoring department, though, and Butler continues to take a backseat on most nights.
Rather than imposing his will at every possible opportunity, Butler has allowed Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons to pace the offense, instead working more off the ball, focusing his effort on defense and waiting until the fourth quarter to take control.
There are definite positives to Butler’s unselfish approach — namely keeping Embiid involved and engaged — but there are still moments and games where a more aggressive Butler would benefit the Sixers. He’s their second best player for a reason, and his shot-creation is a luxury the Sixers didn’t previously have.
