Amir Johnson: Younger legs
Last season, Amir Johnson played valuable minutes as the Sixers’ backup center. He was a stabilizing force on defense when Joel Embiid sat, often putting himself in the right position to deter shots and defend the post.
Now, just one season later, Johnson is out of the Sixers’ rotation. Age is a clear factor in his 14th season, with Johnson struggling to defend without fouling. He doesn’t do much on either end and, more often than not, find himself in foul trouble when playing extended minutes.
The Sixers need more frontcourt depth. Mike Muscala has done an admirable job, but adding another reliable big should fall somewhere on the front office’s priorities list. Johnson can no longer fill the role Philadelphia envisioned.
