
The Sixers lost in overtime on Christmas, blew out the Jazz in Utah, then were blown out in Portland. The latter game was without Joel Embiid, but it only emphasized the Sixers’ depth issues. Adding one or more pieces to the second unit should be Elton Brand’s New Years resolution.
The Celtics are still struggling to fit all the pieces together. Al Horford and Gordon Hayward aren’t back to full health, Jaylen Brown and Terry Rozier are underperforming, and Kyrie Irving can’t clean up the mess every night. With that said, talent should eventually win out.
The Blazers remain steadfast in the competitive Western Conference, with Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum both experiencing success over the past week. Lillard hit the game-winner in Golden State, while McCollum dropped 35 points on the Philadelphia defense.
OKC remains the best defensive team in the NBA, with Paul George being a significant reason why. He has been the Thunder’s best player on both ends this season, earning legitimate MVP buzz and counteracting Russell Westbrook‘s struggles.
The Pacers are rolling, even with Victor Oladipo re-adjusting after injury. The bench outshines most second units in the Eastern Conference. Myles Turner is rounding into Defensive Player of the Year form. Thaddeus Young is the ultimate glue guy. Oh, and Oladipo will only get better.
