Demetrius Jackson
By Lucas Johnson
The former Notre Dame point guard is currently the most expendable player on the Philadelphia 76ers roster. The Sixers have plenty of players that can play at the point guard position such as: Ben Simmons, T.J. McConnell, Markelle Fultz, and even Landry Shamet to some extent. Jackson New Year’s resolution should be to prove that it’s in the best interest of the club to retain him.
The deadline to sign players to two-way contracts is on Jan. 15th of this year and to be honest, the club could use the spot for other G-League prospects that play at positions of need. In the past, I wrote about how Haywood Highsmith and Cameron Oliver are NBA worthy prospects. At this point it would make since for the Sixers to waive Jackson and use his slot of a two-way contract on either player.
The two ways that Jackson needs to improve is prove to be a more consistent 3-point shooter and be able to defend on the NBA level. Jackson’s lack of NBA minutes isn’t unwarranted. He’s been a negative defender in G-League and has a career 31.0 percent shooting from downtown.
Improving his defense and outside shooting is the only way Jackson can prove to the Sixers that he’s worth keeping on the roster.
