Brett Brown

While the Philadelphia 76ers Twitterverse may want to replace head coach Brett Brown, I personally think it’s unnecessary to do so at this time. That isn’t to say that Brown is without his faults. There are several things that the coach should improve upon, but his New Year’s resolution should be to keep Joel Embiid involved in the second half of games.

Granted, this isn’t completely on Brown. Sometimes teams are double-teaming the big man down low, but there are things the head coach can do to help the situation. Embiid is averaging 16.8 minutes and 15.5 points on 54.0 percent shooting in the first half. Where as, the big man is getting 16.3 minutes and 10.6 points on 42.1 percent shooting in the second half. His shot attempts go down by around three less in the second half from the first half.

Those numbers have to improve and there’s some things that Brown can do to help out his big man. One thing that has seemed to plague the big man this season is fatigue and reducing Embiid’s minutes, especially in the first half could go a long way. It will help the big man to be fresher in the halftimes of games.

Embiid being fresher in the second half will help him be more efficient and if Brown can encourage the players to force feed Embiid in the post a little more, it could help as well. Surely there are other areas that Brown can improve on, but working on this aspect could help Embiid when the postseason comes around.
