The Lakers’ current center rotation consists of JaVale McGee, Tyson Chandler and Ivica Zubac. Adding more depth to the frontcourt should top Magic Johnson‘s to-do list, and Jontay Porter makes ample sense.
While missing the entire season with an ACL/MCL tear definitely taints Porter’s stock, his performance last season should earn first-round grades. Conditioning will be essential, but he’s already a hyper-skilled offensive player who fits L.A.’s current system.
At 6-foot-11, Porter is an excellent screen-setter who can finish with touch at the rim or pop out to the three-point line. He’s also an underrated passer, often surveying the court from the free throw line and making pinpoint passes to open teammates. The Lakers push the pace and move the ball, which Porter can contribute to.
