Once considered a potential top-five pick, Quentin Grimes has fallen universally outside the lottery. In most cases, he’s considered closer to second-round pick than early-20s pick. Even so, his upside and pedigree should keep NBA teams interested.

At 6-foot-5, Grimes has a mature frame and some legitimate skill. He hasn’t been the dynamic playmaker that many hoped, but he’s a capable passer who can use his strength to slash and finish at the rim. A recent hot streak is also promising.

The Rockets take the risk on a young prospect who can fill the relief valve duties behind James Harden and Chris Paul. Austin Rivers has been a valuable addition, but it might be short-term given his current contract. Taking on the Grimes project could be worthwhile.
