Philadelphia 76ers Player of the Week: J.J. Redick has scoring touch

The Philadelphia 76ers had one bright spot in a week full of multiple losses and injuries with J.J. Redick having the hot hand scoring.

This past week wasn’t an easy one for the Philadelphia 76ers. The team dealt with multiple injuries and had lost three out of four games. J.J. Redick‘s incredible week scoring shouldn’t go unnoticed despite of this rough week for the franchise. Redick has been hot for the beginning week of April and has earned the player of the week award.

In a 20 point blowout loss against the Dallas Mavericks, Redick had his worst night shooting from 3-point land for the week. He finished with 26 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal, four turnovers and three fouls, while shooting 8-17 on field goal attempts, 4-11 on 3-pointers and a perfect 6-6 on foul shots. Redick was the leading scorer for both teams in this contest.

The Atlanta Hawks were able to defeat the Sixers despite a 30 point outing from Redick. Besides 30 points, Redick also had two rebounds, three assists and one foul while converting 10-22 shots from the floor, 6-13 on 3-point attempts and 4-7 shots from the charity stripe. This was the fourth time this season that Redick scored at least 30 points in a game.

Redick was lights out in the loss against the Milwaukee Bucks. He ended with 29 points, two rebounds, three assists, one steal, one block and one foul, while shooting 66.7 percent on 15 shots, 5-9 from downtown and 100.0 percent on four free throw attempts. Redick was the third leading scorer in this game behind Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid.

In the win against the Chicago Bulls, Redick had his lowest scoring output of the week. He had 23 points, five rebounds, one assist, one steal, one turnover and one foul, while making 8-12 shots, 4-7 on 3-pointers and 3-3 on free throws. Redick was the Sixers leading scorer for the game and this win snapped the franchise’s first three game losing streak of the season.

Honorable mention

Jonah Bolden gets this week’s honorable mention due to his overall good play and stepping up in Embiid’s absence. He recorded his first double-double of the season against the Hawks with 13 points and 10 rebounds. In the four games this past week he averaged 8.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.8 blocks, 1.0 turnover and 2.3 fouls.

This was the second time this season that Redick had at least four straight games of scoring at least 20 points. The Philadelphia 76ers did record three straight losses this past week, but that wasn’t because of a lack of effort from Redick. He averaged 27.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.3 blocks,1.3 turnovers and 1.8 fouls.
