Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach, Monty Williams, has gained the interest of yet another team in his services this postseason.
Outside of the Philadelphia 76ers playoff run, the biggest story for the franchises this postseason has been the interest that assistant coach, Monty Williams, has received from opposing teams to fill their head coach position. He was a candidate for the Sacramento Kings job, before the Kings hired Luke Walton instead. Williams is currently in the running for the Los Angeles Lakers gig along side Tyronn Lue and both are getting ready for a second interview.
Now, it’s time to add the Phoenix Suns to the list of teams interested in Williams’ services. The Suns recently fired their head coach, Igor Kokoskov, after just one season with the job. Williams, along with the Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach, David Vanterpool, are the two candidates that the Suns are currently interested in, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Both the Lakers and the Suns are looking to get out of the lottery and back into the playoffs. Both seem to believe that, at bare minimum, Williams has the potential to take their franchise back to the promise land. He has a 173-221 regular season record and 2-8 playoff record in five seasons.
With the two teams in the Lakers and the Suns, Williams will have a choice to make if both teams offer him the position. Both of these have pros and cons that Williams will have to consider before making a decision and it’s not an easy choice.
