Although he was only a part of the Sixers for a short period, Landry Shamet was the clear choice for the starting shooting guard on the All-Time Process Sixers. Shamet was drafted in 2018, after the pick from the Magic didn’t convert the year before, by then interim general manager Brett Brown, the pick used to acquire Shamet was selected 26th overall in the 2018 draft. The pick was acquired which was part of the Dario Saric trade back in 2014 when Sam Hinkie was the GM.
In his 54 game tenure with the Sixers, Shamet made an immediate impact. Coming off the bench, he was arguably our best shooter until he was traded. He averaged 8.3 points and shot 40.4 percent from three with the Sixers on 4.5 attempts per game. Arguably his most memorable game came on Jan. 8th, when he scored a career-high 29 points with 8 threes in a win against the Washington Wizards.
For me, seeing him traded hurt more than when Robert Covington and Saric were shipped to Minnesota. I’m not sure why that is, but I think I speak for many Sixers fan when I say his loss hurt, a lot. Shamet’s situation is what the Process is about. Even though we had something really good in the young sharpshooter, in order to become true championship contenders he had to be included in the deal for Tobias Harris and company.
As the Sixers compete for a championship, the effect of Landry Shamet most likely will not be forgotten any time soon, even as he develops and improves with the Los Angeles Clippers.
