The Philadelphia 76ers have several former players that will be participating in the BIG 3 league as either players or coaches.

The BIG 3 league is entering it’s third season after being founded by the celebrity, Ice Cube. The BIG 3 is doing well and recently expanded adding four more teams. The league recently had it’s draft and rosters along with the coaches set. The Philadelphia 76ers are well represented in this league by having five former players participating as either players or coaches.

Coaches

The biggest name in terms of Sixers alumni is Julius Erving, aka Dr. J. The last time Philly won a NBA championship was in 1983 and it was because of Dr.J. The Hall of Famer played 11 seasons with the 76ers in which he averaged 22.0 points and 6.7 rebounds. He also made the NBA All-Star team each year he played with the Sixers.

Dr. J will be the coach of Tri-State this year and has been a part of the BIG 3 since the league began in 2017. The league’s title trophy was named in honor of his illustrious career. Erving’s roster includes the following players: Jermaine O’Neal, Amar’e Stoudemire, Nate Robinson, Yakhouba Diawara, Jason Richardson and Bonzi Wells.

Rick Mahorn was more famous for his days with the Detroit Pistons than the 76ers. He played with the team in two separate stints for a total of three seasons with the 76ers. The first time he played for Philly was for two season in1989-90 and 1990-91. His second stint with the franchise came at the end of his career in 1998-99 season. In three seasons, he averaged 9.0 points and 7.1 rebounds.

Mahorn has won a championship in the BIG 3 in the league’s first season as the coach of Trilogy and led the team to a 10-0 record that season. In two seasons in the BIG 3, he has a total coaching record of 13-5. This season he’s taken charge of the expansion team, Enemies. He’ll be coaching: Gilbert Arenas, Perry Jones III, Lamar Odom, Royce White, Craig Smith and Frank Robinson.

Players

As already mentioned, Jason Richardson will be playing for Dr. J’s team this year. Like Erving, Richardson was once on the Sixers. He played his last two seasons with the 76ers and was a part of “The Process”. During his stint with the 76ers, Richardson averaged 10.0 points and 1.0 steal. He was drafted with the 14th pick in this past BIG 3 draft.

Reggie Evans stint with the 76ers was short, but it’s hard to forget the big man’s work with the franchise in the 2007-08 season and 2008-09 season. In those two seasons, he averaged 4.3 points and 6.8 rebounds. Evans had a great season in the BIG 3 last year.

"“…he took the league by storm leading all players in rebounds and blocks while being top-five in steals, points, field goals and field goal percentage.”"

Needless to say that the former 76ers big man will probably have another good year in the BIG 3 with the 3-Headed Monsters .

Despite only playing in 14 games with Philly, Sam Young is still another 76ers alumni in the BIG 3 league. In those 14 games, Young averaged 2.9 points and 1.5 rebounds. Young was drafted with the 16th pick of the draft and will be playing for the Trilogy this year.
