Matisse Thybulle has been among the best defenders in college basketball for a couple seasons now. The senior notched historic steal and block numbers for the Huskies, using his frame and instincts to intercept passing lanes, protect the weak side and anchor Washington’s zone.
With a solid frame, elite-level instincts and the makings of an excellent defender at the next level, Thybulle would be a natural target late in the first round. San Antonio already has the backcourt set, so Thybulle — along with Bitadze — can help fill gaps in other areas. The Spurs don’t have a ton of versatile defensive wings on the roster.
Shooting will be the most important swing skill for Thybulle. His senior season was the worst three-point percentage of his four-year stint at UW, so there’s cause for concern on that front. He will need to iron out mechanics and become a serviceable spot-up threat.
