The Cavs remain invested in Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson for the time being, but neither will carry much weight in the long-term plans. De’Andre Hunter could fill that void, giving Cleveland a versatile power forward who fits alongside its young core pieces.

The Virginia sophomore showed important growth in year two, improving his statistical production across the board after stepping into a starting role. He added a key dynamic to the Cavs’ tournament win, offering face-up scoring that was lacking in UMBC-shortened years past.

On the other end, Hunter’s long arms, strong frame and overarching versatility give him one of the highest defensive ceilings in the draft. The Cavs lack quality two-way players, so Hunter fills a sizable void in that respect. In a draft that’s low on high-end talent, Hunter’s floor will put him in the top-five conversation.
