It’s never good for the Philadelphia 76ers and their fan base when a former player gets arrested, especially when that player was a fan favorite.

There were plenty of players that stood out from the time of “The Process”. One of which was big man Richaun Holmes, who was a second round pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. Holmes worked his way into the rotation and was with the Philadelphia 76ers until the franchise traded him last summer to the Phoenix Suns. Now, he’s made news again in a negative way as he was recently arrested in Miami, Fl.

He, along with James Webb, were arrested for possession of marijuana, according to David Ovalle of the Miami Herald (subscription need). Holmes was able to post bond and get out of jail only after a few hours. Due to the fact that this was a misdemeanor charge, Holmes could be facing the following penalties: a $1,000 fine, along with either one year of jail or probation, according to the attorneys at Hussein & Webber.

This news could not have come at a worst time for Holmes and the Suns. The Suns are still dealing with second year player Josh Jackson being arrested in Miami and Holmes is set to become a free agent.

Holmes had a very good season with the Suns averaging 8.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.1 blocks, while shooting 60.8 percent from the floor. Despite his good season, this drug charge will more than likely hurt him once he hits free agency.

Prior to being traded, Holmes averaged 7.4 points, 4.2 rebounds and 0.9 blocks with the 76ers in three seasons. Despite being drafted in the second round he eventually gained a bigger role than Jahlil Okafor, who was the Sixers third overall pick in the same draft that Holmes was selected in.

Based on how this plays out, this arrest could have a very negative impact on the former Philadelphia 76ers big man’s career.
