The Timberwolves take an upside swing on Sekou Doumbouya, the athletic French forward who’s rising up draft boards after a strong finish to the season overseas. He has also shot well in workouts and seems to be enticing teams will his touch, physical tools and — you guessed it — upside.
With Karl-Anthony Towns anchoring the interior, Doumbouya makes a great deal of sense for Minnesota. He’s a potential four-position defender, standing 6-foot-9 with a strong frame and long arms. He’s explosive as well, leaping into passing lanes and protecting the weak side on occasion.
There’s still a great deal of development left before Doumbouya is a consistently effective offensive player. But his shooting touch and freight-train potential in transition are appealing attributes. If he can iron out his shooting consistency and add a viable handle, his comboforward potential is ideal for the Wolves.
