I’m not this high on Rui Hachimura, but most experts and intel seem to point toward the Japanese-born forward as a potential lottery pick. The Hornets have been connected on more than one occasion, with Charlotte in need of frontcourt depth.
To some extent, Hachimura represents an upside swing similar to Doumbouya. He’s a very different player, but his intrigue is derived from physical tools and two-way potential. Hachimura is a strong, bullish athlete at 6-foot-9 who has a few useful skills to build on.
After two seasons in a complementary role, Rui’s junior season was emphatic. He stepped into the Zags’ go-to scoring role, showcasing touch from mid-range and the ability to punish mismatches inside. He will need to improve his defensive awareness and three-point consistency, but his athletic flashes are admittedly brilliant.
