The Celtics add another wing in Dylan Windler, a senior who flew under the radar at mid-major Belmont. Standing 6-foot-8, Windler is one of the best shooters in the draft. That skill alone gives him a path to productive NBA minutes.
With loads of shot creators in Jayson Tatum, Marcus Smart, Al Horford, Kevin Porter Jr. and others — it’s tough to peg Boston’s 2019-20 roster right now — loading up on shooters makes sense. Windler can function as a dynamic off-ball threat, running around screens, collecting dribble hand-offs and making smart passes within the offense.
He’s not an elite athlete and needs to add strength, but Windler has the tools to become a highly effective role player in the NBA. The Celtics are no guarantee to use all three first-round picks, but Windler worked out for Boston and is a viable option at 22.
