The Nets address the power forward position will their only first-round pick, selecting one of the most divisive prospects in the draft. KZ Okpala showed tremendous growth as a sophomore, but questions about his overall readiness have left some on the fence.
A very raw player, Okpala has NBA tools. He’s 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan and room to add muscle in the coming months. His athleticism shines on defense and he’s a much-improved offensive player, adding a viable spot-up jumper and flashes as a passer.
Where Okpala falls short is polish. He’s struggles to score off the dribble, lacking both a handle and touch. He’s also a negative defender, which shouldn’t be the case given his physical profile. He needs to add strength and become more aware. Brooklyn is a good spot for him to develop.
