J.J. Redick

Other potential suitors: Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings, Dallas Mavericks

Current status: Signed to New Orleans Pelicans

As his career enters its waning years, it’s clear J.J. Redick wants to stay in Philadelphia. He has said throughout his tenure that he wants to retire in a Sixers uniform. That doesn’t mean he’s re-signing for a discount, nor does he owe the Sixers that courtesy.

Redick is coming off a career-high scoring season and will have aggressive suitors. His family is in Brooklyn, so location matters, but the Lakers, Nets and Knicks all have cap space to offer if other deals go south. There will be other teams lining up for Redick’s services.

Just last season, Redick almost bolted for Indiana before a last-second bump in compensation from Philadelphia. He’s not tethered to the Sixers and Brand will need to field a competitive offer — perhaps one similar to his $13 million deal from last season.

If the Sixers offer enough money, it’s safe to assume Redick is re-signing. The ball is in Philadelphia’s court. Redick should be a priority, though obviously a tier below Butler and Harris. His important to Brett Brown’s offense shouldn’t be understated.

  • Well, the first unexpected Woj Bomb has dropped. Redick will sign a two-year, $26.5 million contract with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pels need shooting around Zion Williamson and Redick provides just that.
