Potential wing candidates

The Sixers have no greater area of need than quality two-way wings. Versatile perimeter pieces who can shoot, defend and provide basic skills on offense will help bolster the Sixers’ shaky second unit at a position the NBA has quickly become dependent on.

Reggie Bullock

Current status: Signed to New York Knicks

An elite off-ball shooter, Bullock projects well in the Redick/Landry Shamet role. He’s a better defender than both and became an important piece to both Detroit and Los Angeles’ offenses last season. He will have significant competition, though — L.A. being at the forefront.

Terrence Ross

Current status: Signed to Orlando Magic

Following a career season in Orlando, there’s a chance cap space is the only chance at getting Ross to Philadelphia. He’s an electric perimeter scorer who scores it every which way — off the dribble, off the catch, however you serve it. His shot-making alone is an NBA skill.

Jeremy Lamb

Current status: Signed to Indiana Pacers

Lamb was the Hornets’ second-leading scorer last season, emerging as a prime free agent option if the Sixers can get into his price range. The full mid-level might not be enough, but Lamb has tremendous upside in a complementary role next to multiple stars.

Trevor Ariza

Current status: Signed to Sacramento Kings

It’s reasonable to assume Ariza is better than what he showed last season. Phoenix was a dreadful spot and Washington wasn’t much better. He was on two bad teams and, quite frankly, didn’t have much motivation outside his contract to perform at a high level. His two-way pedigree creates natural intrigue.

Rodney Hood

Current status: Signed to Portland Trail Blazers

A strong postseason run in Portland might make Hood a tad overpriced. But his value as a 6-foot-8 shooter and occasional shot-creator is something Philadelphia would value. Microwave scoring is something the team presently lacks.

Patrick McCaw

Current status: Unsigned

McCaw has played three NBA seasons and won three NBA titles. He was a marginal piece of the Raptors’ championship run last season, but there’s value in his on-ball defense at 6-foot-6. He just doesn’t give much on offense.

Wesley Matthews

Current status: Signed to Milwaukee Bucks

Most implored the Sixers to pursue Matthews on the buyout market last season. He has regressed after rupturing his Achilles, but Matthews remains an efficient 3-point shooter and a strong-bodied wing defender.

Iman Shumpert

Current status: Unsigned

Shumpet rekindled some value last season as a two-way wing who shoots 3s and defends a few positions. The 3-and-D archetype is as valued as ever in the NBA and the Sixers are no exception to wanting useful wings who check both boxes.

Wayne Ellington

Current status: Signed to New York Knicks

Similar to Matthews, Ellington was a hot topic on the buyout market last season. The Sixers missed out, but he’s a Philadelphia native and clear fit on offense. He won’t be cheap, but he’s still affordable as another off-ball shooting threat.

Kyle Korver

Current status: Traded to Memphis Grizzlies

Speaking of off-ball shooting threats, Korver is hitting the open market after Memphis’ trade-and-waive. He’s not much of a defender in 2019, but Korver’s relentless off-ball movement and silky shooting provides value in a similar vein as Redick.

Jeff Green

Current status: Unsigned

Green still has value in a limited bench role. He can score and shoot at decent rates and has positional size at 6-foot-8. He’s not a glamorous piece, but was better than advertised in Washington last season.

Justin Anderson

Current status: Unsigned

The Sixers can probably obtain Anderson for cheap. He enjoyed his time in Philadelphia and fits the culture as a hard-nosed defender with great physical tools. His offense is a net zero, but his defensive ceiling is high enough to roster.

Thabo Sefolosha

Current status: Unsigned

Sefolosha is a smart veteran who tends to put himself in the right position on both ends. He shoots 3-pointers at a 40 percent clip and moves the ball on offense, while his defense is a plus. On a cheap contract, he’s a pretty ideal fit.

DeMarre Carroll

Current status: Signed to San Antonio Spurs

Signing a big extension after the Hawks’ 60-win season did Carroll no favors, as his production has never quite lived up to his supposed value. But on a smaller contract, his size, shooting and defense could all fit snugly in the Sixers’ rotation.

Garrett Temple

Current status: Signed to Brooklyn Nets

Temple is a versatile wing defender who can shoot 3s and offer a relief-valve ball handler on offense. He checks several boxes for the Sixers as a result and should be an affordable option given the sheer depth of wing talent in any given free agent class.
