The public perception alone will dissuade the Sixers’ front office when it comes to poor, ill-advised decisions. Philadelphia should run it back at all costs, which means offering five-year, $190 million contracts to Butler and Harris. When push comes to shove, I think the Sixers do that.
FanSided
In addition to retaining the max free agents, the Sixers will want to keep J.J. Redick. He’s a valued locker room presence who wants to finish his career in Philadelphia. He’s also a linchpin in Brett Brown’s offense, providing the basis for a number of different sets.
Elton Brand has said in public he needs every dollar this summer. It has also been reported in the the past that ownership has given the all-clear to re-sign Butler and Harris if it’s the best option. It’s the best option and the Sixers, at full strength, are legitimate title contenders next season.
On the bench, Mike Scott and Boban Marjanovic are reasonably inexpensive and have expressed a desire to return. James Ennis might fall just outside the Sixers’ price range. T.J. McConnell’s market won’t be as big as is sounds due to his obvious limitations. He’s also a fan favorite, a locker room cornerstone and someone who embraces Philly like few others. He’ll be back.
The only major free agent adds in this scenario are Seth Curry, Anthony Tolliver and Khem Birch — all useful pieces who won’t command over-the-top money. Curry is an elite shooter and strong positional defender, though a tad undersized. Tolliver is a stretch four, while Birch fills the backup center void behind Embiid.
