5. A potential two-way contract
The Sixers have released Haywood Highsmith, signed Shake Milton to an NBA deal and given Norvel Pelle a two-way roster spot. That leaves Elton Brand will one two-way slot to fill and a handful of viable options on the Summer League roster.
In the end, Marial Shayok is expected to get the nod. He’s the Sixers’ lone second-round pick from the 2019 draft and he fits the archetype of what Philadelphia needs — a long, versatile wing who can shoot at a high clip. He has a 7-foot wingspan, checking the “over 6-foot-10 wingspan” box on Brand’s roster checklist.
While Shayok might not start in Vegas — Zhaire Smith and Matisse Thybulle will likely fill up the wing spots — he should get ample playing time. His ability to bolt around screens and nail quick catch-and-shoot jumpers is a skill set the Sixers covet.
If Shayok doesn’t get a two-way contract (or gets an full-on rookie deal), there are a couple other players worth considering. Christ Koumadje has apparently impressed in camp and was a standout during his pre-draft workout in Philadelphia. The Sixers shouldn’t roster another big, but at 7-foot-4, Koumadje might be unique enough to take a flyer on.
