Philadelphia 76ers: 3 reasons to like the Mike Scott re-signing
The Philadelphia 76ers re-signed Mike Scott to a two-year, $9.8 million contract this summer.
The Philadelphia 76ers‘ starting five last year was not the question when it came to this team and it won’t be this year either. The question that will still need to be answered come the season is how the second unit will produce. Re-signing Mike Scott makes that question a little easy to answer. The three reasons to like this move is that Scott brings shooting, toughness and a character that fits what us fans ask for.
3. Shooting
The team as currently constructed needs shooting, so keeping Scott was a priority. The man is not nicknamed ‘The Threegional Manager’ for no reason. In his last two seasons, Scott has shot 40 percent from behind the 3-point arc which is two percentage points above what the league as a whole averaged last season.

Scott came up huge in Game 4 against the Nets last season as hit the game-winning corner three to take the win home. The move to keep Scott allows the team to build on the tandem that was he and Ben Simmons, with either of them taking duties as the small ball center.
2. Toughness
Toughness and Scott go hand in hand. If you can recall last season he showcased this when he stepped up to Enes Kanter when jawing with Simmons, stepping up to Eric Bledsoe when throwing a ball at Embiid in frustration, or his famous quote that he ain’t no b–. Scott has described himself as a gritty and tough player in interviews. Additionally, Scott doubled down and showed us his toughness by taking warmups in the playoffs with a walking boot on. Showing this toughness is cheat code to the love of the Philly fans
1. Character
The final reason to like the signing is the character of Mike Scott. In his short time in Philly, Scott gained the respect and adoration of the fans. Scott, in my mind, is filling T.J. McConnell’s role as the everyman Sixer on the court. What other player do you know that will dive into the front row for a lose ball and then proceed to take a swig of someone’s brown liquor?
About a month or so into his stint with the team last year, Scott voiced in an interview that Philly has shown him the most love out of where he’s played. That was the final thing to attach us fans hook, line and sinker to love him unconditionally. This quickly developed into the Mike Scott Hive.

This signing was a valuable one to the team. The idea of keeping someone who knows his role, knows the system we run and liked his time here last season was a no-brainer. Kudos to Elton Brand to keeping such a valuable bench piece who will pay dividends come playoff time.
