The Philadelphia 76ers may have holes to fill out on their bench, but there are still five big name free agents that they should avoid.
There’s no doubt that the Philadelphia 76ers have had a good offseason. They’ve made some solid additions to the roster, but there’s still some needs the team needs to address. I recently wrote about 10 free agents the Sixers should target to help fill those needs. However, there’s some free agents that Philly needs to stay away from, despite the fact that they are high-profile players. There’s five big name free agents that the 76ers should actively avoid.
Lance Stephenson
There’s no doubt that Lance Stephenson has plenty of personality and skills, but the Sixers don’t really need either. Stephenson has skills as a playmaker and defender, but both have been on the decline in recent years. He’s never been a scorer either which won’t help him land in Philly. After his initial success with the Indiana Pacers to begin his career, he’s never been able to capture that same spark with the other seven teams he’s played with in his nine season career.
The only positive for the veteran is that he shot 37.1 percent from the 3-point line, which is the second highest of his career. While the Sixers need a 3-point shooting wing, Stephenson hasn’t been and he’s shot only 31.5 percent on 3-pointers for his career. He’s never been and unlikely will be a consistent threat from downtown, especially at a high volume. Philly have defensive oriented wings in Zhaire Smith and Matisse Thybulle, so there’s no real need for Stephenson.
