Philadelphia 76ers: 5 big name free agents to avoid
Dwight Howard
Like with Gasol, one of the main reasons why the Philadelphia 76ers should stay away from Dwight Howard is the team’s deep bench rotation at center. While Howard is out of his prime, he could still contribute as a starter or more likely a reserve for a handful of teams. With the Sixers, he’d be stuck behind Embiid, Horford and possibly O’Quinn for minutes. If he wants minutes, Philly isn’t the team for him.
There are reasons why the 76ers shouldn’t want Howard either. The biggest being his injury history. It stole the prime of his career and he’s slowly became an out-of-date offensive option. He’s not a floor spacer and his lost a decent amount of athleticism, so he’s not the elite pick-and-role player he use to be. His defense and rebounding are still very good, but concerns about his personality in the locker room makes him unattractive.
Like Gasol, Howard will surely make it to the Hall of Fame. He’s an eight time All-Star, three-time Defensive Player of the Year, has been named to a NBA All-Defensive team five times and was named to an All-NBA team eight times. He’s also lead the NBA rebounds and blocks in multiple season. Howard is good enough to find another team in the NBA, but he and the Sixers aren’t a good match.
