2. J.R. Smith
Where J.R. Smith gets a leg up is the shooting department. He’s the most dynamic shooter on the market — a former Sixth Man of the Year who can hit 3-pointers off-movement, spotting up or in isolation. He can add much need variety to the second unit.

The main concern for Smith is obvious. He hasn’t played competitive basketball in almost a year, instead forcing Cleveland’s hand on a buyout this summer. He’s past his prime at 33, leaving concerns over his durability and current physical status.
But again, the Sixers aren’t invoking much risk here. Smith would join on a veteran minimum contract, assuming other teams aren’t offering more. His 3-point shooting could, to a very minor extent, help fill the void J.J. Redick‘s departure created.
If signed, Smith would compete for minutes with Ennis, Smith and Thybulle. He’s not guaranteed significant playing time. But he’s someone who won a championship in Cleveland, proving his worth on a contending team. As simple as it sounds, perimeter shooting gravity is something the Sixers need.
In addition to his shooting touch, Smith has made a career of multi-level scoring and prolific isolation moves. Those days are behind him, but there are still moments where Smith can get his own off the bounce — another attribute Philadelphia can appreciate.
